This database gives an overview of organizations which offer medical support, support for veterans and internally displaced persons, support for religious and ethnic minorities, support for LGBTQIA+ and children. It is regularly updated.
IIE-SRF Fellowship
Professors, researchers and public intellectuals from any country/any discipline who face threats and
holds a Ph.D. or highest degree in their field and have significant experience in research or teaching are eligible to search the fellowship. The fellowship is 25.000$ for a one year period, which is extendable to maximum 2 years. The fellowship is granted quarterly, meaning there is no deadline.
Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers
Fellowship for highly qualified international scientists and scholars from all disciplines who completed their doctorates less than 12 years ago and wish to spend extended periods of research in Germany are invited to apply. The fellowship is worth 3,000 EUR per month. The amount includes a mobility lump sum and payments towards health and liability insurances. Applications can be submitted at any time.. The Selection Committee responsible for reviewing applications to this programme meets every March, July, and November.
The New University in Exile Consortium – Library Access Initiative
The Library Access Initiative by the The New University in Exile Consortium provides stranded endangered scholars with remote access to the electronic materials available via consortium member-institution libraries. Eligible are scholars who hold a Ph.D. or who are in the last year of their Ph.D. with no access to research resources due to armed conflict.
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) – Walter Benjamin Programme (remote support)
Funding abroad can only be provided if researchers are integrated into Germany’s academic research system. This is the case if, immediately prior to submitting a proposal, they have worked as a researcher in Germany for a continuous period of at least three years during their doctoral and/or postdoctoral phase. If researchers are already based abroad, funding can be provided abroad if they have completed the majority of their schooling and higher education in Germany and, as of proposal time, have not spent more than three years abroad for research purposes after completing their doctorate in Germany or abroad. Furthermore, they must not have worked longer than one year at the host institution selected for the Walter Benjamin fellowship as of proposal time.
E-editiones / TEI Consortium – Small Grants for Ukrainian Scholars
e-editiones and the TEI Consortium in collaboration with Archives Online and JinnTec announce a small grant program aiming to help scholars of Ukrainian cultural heritage to continue their work that has been disrupted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. We urge other institutions to support this call so we can offer funding for more of our colleagues affected by the war.
Any scholar who had to leave Ukraine or relocate within Ukrainian territory because of the war and is working on sources broadly conceived as textual cultural heritage and plans to make data and results openly available.
New University of Exile Consortium – Support for Ukrainian Scholars

Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) – Walter Benjamin Programme
The German Research Foundation supports refugee researchers in applying for a position at a German research institution under the existing Walter Benjamin Programme (see form 50.10). The aim of the funding is to integrate them into the academic system in Germany. Proposals may be submitted under this programme from all disciplines, and you are free to choose the subject of your research.
AAJR-Fordham-NYPL Fellowship for Ukrainian Scholars
The American Academy for Jewish Research, the New York Public Library, and the Center for Jewish Studies at Fordham University invite applications for fellowships from scholars affected by the current war in Ukraine. Funding is primarily available for scholars in Jewish studies from any area of research, while additional funding will support scholars in any field of Slavic Studies. The fellowship’s goal is to provide support and remote access to resources for scholars in need affected by the war.
The fellowships consist of a $5000 stipend, remote access to library resources at Fordham and the NYPL, especially NYPL’s Dorot Jewish Division and the Slavic collection, and networking with faculty members within the AAJR and Fordham University. When feasible, fellows will share their work with the members of the AAJR and learning community of the Center for Jewish Studies at Fordham University and the New York Public Library.
Vytautas Magnus University – Support for Ukrainian Students
Vytautas Magnus University is lending a helping hand to Ukrainians. In 2020, a support fund was established at VMU for the students who suffered from state repression in Belarus. From now on, this fund will also support the students who have suffered from military operations in Ukraine.

KONE Foundation – Emergency Residencies for Ukrainian Artists and Art Professionals in Finland
Emergency residencies are open for requests as long as there are available places. The priority is to respond to the urgent need for accommodation for artists and art professionals who are fleeing from or have been displaced due to the war in Ukraine. Both short and long stays in Finland are provided for individuals and families.

Bulgarian Academy of Sciences – Accommodations for Ukrainian Scientists
The Management Board of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences believes that in the 21st century solving political problems through military actions is absolutely unacceptable and in a gesture of solidarity makes its hotel in Sofia and its holiday base in Varna available to accommodate Ukrainian scientists and their families.
